Maria Lydia Avendano
Session #14

Maria Lydia Avendano has over 20 years working with youth in schools, mental health facilities, and in the community. She has been a school social worker with APS (Albuquerque Public Schools) since December 2000. Before APS, she worked at UNM Programs for Children in the school-based centers, and prior to that at Youth Development Inc, as a Family Therapist. She works currently at West Mesa High School where she works in the Special Education Department with students that have IEP’s and as one of the GSA sponsors’. She is a strong advocate for LGBTQ+ youth, and is on the Jensen Team advocating for students living in poverty. For self-care she performs Latin and Belly dance .
